LTL Equipment Found Elsewhere.

LTL at its Finest Yellow Transit: Kenworth CBE Links

Time's Up

I decided to create this section after seeing pictures of tractors and trailers from LTL companies, past and present, being used by other fleets or simply put out to pasture. There are current companies equipment in here such as ABF and Roadway (YRC) as well as fallen flags like PIE, Preston and Consolidated Freightways. These somewhat nostalgic pieces of equipment bring almost as much joy, if not more than, the trucks running the roads today!

This APA trailer was northbound on I-95. APA was an LTL carrier that had a prominent presence in the northeastern United States but sadly closed up in 2002. It's a wonder I caught this trailer still in full livery as I took it in 2007!

The PA Turnpike road crews now use this ex-Carolina/ABF tractor as a sign truck for directing traffic. I took this off of the Northeast Extension in Pennsylvania.

This Freightliner COE was hauling two ex-ABF pups through Arizona along I-40. Note the front pup has no landing gear!

These were two of many ex-Carolina pups parked in fields along I-40 in Arizona most likely now used for storage.

Don't let the stripes and rims fool you, this is an ex-PIE tractor. It was sitting in a field/lot among other trucks and trailers along I-40 either in Texas or New Mexico.

This is a paradise for old LTL equipment: EWs Wrecker Service. I've been driving by here annually on trips to see relatives in Oklahoma ever since I was a little one. It's located in Marshall, IL. and I took this on I-70 in Illinois.

I've seen many trailers from Consolidated Freightways, Preston and USF Dugan in here over the years. They also have truckload and other types of trucks and trailers here.

This ex-Overnite pup sat at a construction site on I-80 in Ohio, not too far from the PA border. The pup still retains its number 28-1879.

This old West-Ex liftgate pup, 282594, was taken at Grand Canyon, AZ. next to a gas station. There was another one like it nearby. WestEx was bought out by Saia.

I shot this CF pup on the Garden State Parkway in Belleville, NJ. Its a shame vandals "tagged" what was once a great looking trailer.

This old AAA Trucking trailer was peaking over a construction yard lot in Philadelphia, PA.

Down the street from the AAA trailer is FedEx Ground. They had 3 trailers out of service near the fence along the road.

This trailer came from TNT/USF Red Star. There are many of these sitting around the Philadelphia area. This one was near my house in a warehouse lot.

A mail hauler was tugging this ex-Alvan trailer along Street Rd. in Bensalem, PA. Alvan had recently gone under when I took this picture.

This ex-Roadway Freightliner Columbia sleeper now has a new life as a car hauler. Team trucks from Roadway weren't common in PA, but this will do! I took this on the PA Turnpike in 2009.

Here are some of the cast offs in Spokane. These were all from TNT United. The Ford city tractors were identical to Reddaway's except they (at one time) had full bumpers. All the TNT United tractors were numbered from the beginning of the numbering system to keep them separate from the regular Reddaway equipment. Photo by Dave Faust.

Here is a Freightliner FLD tractor being sold off from Reddaway. Note how they pull the steer tires and replace them with old junk wheels and tires! Photo by Dave Faust.

Reddaway Ford Aeromax (last one in the fleet that I know of) which was taken out of service in Missoula. This was a one of a kind test unit that had a Detroit Diesel engine instead of the Cummins N14 like the rest. Photo by Dave Faust.

Ex-APA Strick van sitting behind a building in an industrial area in northeast Philadelphia.

Ex-USF Red Star/Holland White/GMC parked in Philadelphia, PA.
